This is a reference to 1998’s Spyro the Dragon on PS1, developed by Insomniac Games. Spyro’s wings notably use the inaccurate anatomy present in the original game; later titles gave it correct bat anatomy. In the PlayStation Labo area is a Bot sadly trying to make sense of a pile of shapes. This is referencing PS4 launch title Knack, released in 2013 and developed by SCE Japan Studio. The shapes are what Knack is made of, and he was designed to showcase the power of the PlayStation 4 by being made up of thousands of objects. Once you get to the very top of Mt. Motherboard, on the right you can see a Bot in a white cloak fighting against the wind.

Astro’s Playroom

He plays on everything and in everything, which can sometimes be reflected in his reviews. His favorite console is the Nintendo 3DS, he plays a new FIFA every year and tries to broaden his gaming horizons. F168 understood computer equipment and disassembles everything that falls into his hands. Air Hockey, referred to in-game as AR Hockey, uses two controllers to augment a virtual play field in front of the players. The motion sensor stretches the play field, and the touch pad is used to control the paddles to return the ball. It’s a fun platformer with some of the best controls and is accessible to everyone who owns a PlayStation 5.

On the capsule itself, we included a small hint showing the image of a clock. Looking carefully around the level nearby, you will find a similar clock symbol carved into one of the trees up above. Progress through the level to the area with the floating DualShock controller clouds. Use the clouds to reach the ledges on the wall opposite, and then climb up to the area above. Punch the tree directly in front of you by long-holding Square to perform a spinning attack. EE can help you get everything you need from consoles, to games, to connectivity.

Look Back: What We Said About Astro Bot Rescue Mission

This is specifically a reference to the first game thanks to the lush setting and the Bot’s crossed arms, just like the cover art for that game. At the very start of Raytrace Ruins, there are some Bots on the right playing Ninja Bots. This was a free add-on to 2013 PS4 pack-in title The Playroom by SCE Japan Studio, which is the originator of the Bots and actually precedes the creation of Astro. In the final shaded section of the level with the long wooden bridge, look down on the left-hand wall to see a Bot on a bike escaping a swarm of Bots.

It holds the Guiness World Record as the first platform video game in true 3D, beating out Super Mario 64 by an entire year. Every function and feature of the controller gets a little time in the spotlight. Pervasive and distinct rumble effects steal the show, from the tiny sensation of Astro’s footsteps to thundering moments like an Indiana Jones-style boulder chase. The triggers offer resistance as you charge your jumps in a frog suit or operate the levers on a toy machine. Sliding your finger across the touchpad lets you direct your movement as you roll around in a ball.

At its most basic, Astro’s Playroom is a fairly straightforward platforming game. You play as a cute little robot named Astro, exploring four different worlds set in a universe that appears to exist inside of a computer. You’ll collect coins, stomp on enemies, and poke around in search of secrets. There are boss battles and one-off sequences, like one where you have to pilot a small spaceship through dangerous caverns, or another where you use a bow to pick off faraway enemies.

PlayStation made a name for itself with exclusive titles, and titles like Helldivers 2 and Returnal show off the PS5’s tech. This is also true for the sounds that come from the DualSense. Such as Astro’s feet grating against the ice while he skates, the wind blowing in Memory Meadows or the coin collection sound effect. For the next phase of our Astro’s Playroom guide, we’re going to reveal how to get them all, including the Platinum Trophy.

It also uses the capabilities of the controller in creative ways that hopefully all games capture in the future for a better experience. Finally, the music in Astro’s Playroom is a joy to listen to. Whether it’s the main menu with its signature Astro theme to celebrate the character, or CPU Plaza’s grandiose techno track and even Cooling Springs having a nice and cozy tune in its ice level. My favorite track overall, however, was the SSD Speedway, featuring sounds that match the game’s presentation perfectly.

Those who hop into Astro’s Playroom today will be met with a message that a “mysterious portal” has opened up in the center of the game’s collectible hub, the PS LABO. It also teases that a selection of gatchas, or collectibles that can be earned via an in-game arcade machine, have been added, too. Maybe the most impressive piece of the PlayStation 5 hardware is its new controller, but it’ll only be as good as the games that support it.

What I was meet with was a platformer where you played as a charming little robot in a world that has a better art style then most modern games. Need to get back to it for the special bots, downloaded it the other day but just haven’t got around to it. (LeMans and other duties) @BrettAwesome It’s been updated, hasn’t it.

Astro’s Playroom is not a particularly difficult game, so you shouldn’t really have too much trouble finishing it regardless of your ability level. Nevertheless, in this final part of our Astro’s Playroom guide we’re going to share some tips and tricks to help get you started. As a final reference, the music when climbing up the Memory Cards and CD-ROMs to get to the boss fight is very similar to the music that played when viewing the T. Along the top edge of the ceiling in the Labo area are architectural elements that are from the PSone, the slim version of the original PlayStation.

Or visit the Cooling Springs, featuring a beach party setting and a surprise ice level later. You can also visit the GPU Jungle, which, as the name implies, is more of a jungle ruin to play around in, and the SSD Speedway with its neon sci-fi backdrop.
