This includes how it plays, its story, and how it looks. Whether you’re a fan of the Halloween franchise or horror or not, there is a lot of fun to be had in Emerson Matsuuchi’s homage to the original sequel. Check out our in-depth performance test for more details on how the game runs from our expert hardware team.
It never feels like a gimmick or the only tool you have to solve every problem, but rather one integral part of Bananza’s larger game design philosophy. I was rarely asked to create random tunnels underground with no guidance like you might in Minecraft, and DK’s upgradeable sonar ability helped me find buried collectibles hidden to the naked eye. And, Pauline helps out with the search, too, as using her singing ability reveals waypoints to collectibles marked on your map, making it easy to pick your next destination. That keeps the hunt for completion focused and fun, even if the camera occasionally struggles with the weird angles you force it into when digging yourself a nice hole. Of course, if you want to rip an entire level down to the studs for the fun of it, you can do that, too. Every breakable corner of DK’s world (which is most of them) is bursting with timeless Nintendo magic and equally fresh ambition.
Stu relives the halcyon days when the RTS genre was fast, action packed and criminally addictive. Serpentcoil Island offers challenge and charm, but only for the most patient of wanderers. The team behind RPG Maker jumps into the world of pixelated side-scrollers and top-downs. Physical game enjoyers rejoice – the Switch 2 version of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will have the full game on the cartridge, Sega confirms. One of the greatest strategy games ever is free right now.
As in Pillars of Eternity, usually my important choices are between two undesirable outcomes, or between lesser and greater evils. Moral ambiguity usually amounts to whether something bad will happen now, or whether it might happen at a more severe scale later. Decisions culminate in fun ways, especially towards the end where sidequests and the critical path cleverly intersect.
This is every small detail you need to know about the important ones. toto21 conceals its level cap behind several level limits, unlocked by increasing the main character’s level. If there’s a weak link in the cast, it’s the VIPs, who make an unwelcome return following their widely panned appearance in season 1. They remain bewilderingly terrible, with wooden performances and unnatural dialogue (why are we talking about Marvel superheroes in the middle of a death game?) As far as cartoonishly evil villains go, though, they get the job done. It’s a philosophical pattern that EA Sports games follow, and I believe it’s an annual misstep that also creates unnecessary hostility toward Ultimate Team.

Here’s where Bananza really starts to feel like a lower-key Zelda game, especially when it comes to finding characters and following sub-missions. You can talk to lots of the strange characters in each sublevel, and some share important news. You’ll get directed to a particular goal, and on a 3D map, you can track your progress or warp to other spots.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape
Going for 100% is a massive undertaking, but with how enjoyable Bananza is to play, I’m not slowing down until I’ve collected every last one. And, unlike Mario Kart World’s lackluster Free Roam map, it’s easy to track your progress this time with a helpful list of your Gems in each layer and a really cool 3D map that accurately reflects the current state of the terrain you’ve destroyed. Now, 45 years later, Shadow Labyrinth is taking the mystery to its logical conclusion. Bandai Namco’s oddest use of yellow puck transforms the arcade classic into a sprawling 2D action-adventure game filled with twisted corridors, horrifying monsters, and a buffet of lore. It’s an ’80s novelization turned video game, adapting an LSD enthusiast’s psychedelic book cover into an interactive fever dream. The mutation is natural in some ways, but the high-effort approach shows just how difficult it is for today’s large-scale productions to capture the intrinsic aura of gaming’s long-lost minimalist era.
Robocop: Rogue City
Eat the dots, avoid the ghosts, don’t think about it much beyond that. But as someone who has sunk more quarters than I can count into Pac-Man cabinets, I have thought about it. Like so many other games of its era, Pac-Man is so abstract that it invites us to imagine what exactly we’re seeing on screen. They weren’t questions to be answered so much as negative space to be filled in by cassette tapes and animated specials of the era that dared to reinterpret all those shapes and colors. Opponent tendencies are now visible before the game, and away games apply pressure that affects performance and point totals.
That’s no easy feat, and it’s a testament to Hwang’s exceptional talent for crafting characters who feel like beloved friends, and his skill at constructing storylines that can shatter you, but keep you coming back for more. I was skeptical about subsequent seasons of Squid Game when season 1 was so superlative, but both installments have won me over so completely that I couldn’t imagine the series existing without them. Clocking in at a surprisingly lean 55-minutes (less without credits), it wastes no time in reaching its crushing conclusion.
